I was kind of having a discussion with Der Bohemia Bunny about her money-making endeavours, and my interest in joining her.

To cut my usual long stories short, this is my take on the whole affair:

Well you’re right - it’s very mercenary, but I’m not ashamed, or trying not to be, anyways.

I know the argument about art is how it always has to remain true to its form.

But lately, I have veered towards the opinion of: how much of this can feed you, clothe you, and house you, at the very minimum?

Moreover, if one wants to keep on practising his/her art, one has to find a means to sustain one’s self.

One cannot survive on words alone, and one must survive in order to keep on practising his/her art.

So ultimately, I think it would only be right to let our art pay for itself.

We are not hurting anyone, and I think the counter-argument to potential detractors should be: if it bothers you so much, then why are you still reading what I write?

Alternatively - YOU PAY ME MONEY TO WRITE THEN I TAKE DOWN THE ADS LAH!

Heh. Okbye.

I just thought I’d alert everyone to this nugget of information I chanced upon the other day.

It all started when a friend intro-ed this lobang to me to be a guitar teacher at some music school, and I was like why not, since I like teaching and I do need the cash.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, during the interview/audition, the manager of the school told me that there actually ARE music examinations for electric guitar, bass, drums, etc.

This is cos his school requires all teachers to be certified at some point.

He told me that it was possible to in fact practice on my own then apply for the examination (without the need for a tutor).

I was a bit doubtful at first, but when I went to check it out, I found that it was true!

I think I can manage up to, like, a Grade 5 for the chords thing but for the lead part… er… haha.

Anyway, I thought I’d share this with you cos this could be a potential career path for some of you, but maybe you never thought of it before cos you didn’t know it existed (like me), so why not get the qualifications while you are it.

Hope this was useful to know!
