…I’ve been doing quite a bit of cooking.

Not like fanciful stuff, but just simple stuff that can feed me and still taste good at the same time.

I’ve also been trying to cut down on my carbo intake, which I feel is mainly responsible for my love-handles - read: I might as well plaster the goddamn pratas to my side instead - and have been trying to consume more liquids instead.

More for me to feel filled up faster, thus reducing the likelihood that I will look for something to munch on so I don’t go to sleep hungry a.k.a. Bernardism.

That hasn’t helped, much, by the way. LOL.

Truth be told, ladies and gentlemen, the only way to lose weight is through proper exercise, which I am determined to get more of now that the exams are over.

But first let me show you a picture of the soup I cooked last week.

Clockwise: Sweet-corn, mushroom…

It had a barley beans and soy beans base, then I dumped in onions, garlic, carrots, mushrooms, sweetcorn and tofu, and seasoned it with salt and pepper.

It was quite good, methinks, and am thinking of putting the recipe up on Open Source Food, but I don’t know if the photo does it justice.

I don’t know if you are curious with regards to the source of my inspiration, but in case you are (and you jolly well better be since you’ve been stalking my blog, you friggin’ asshole - just kidding)…

As you can tell from what I said about love-handles, food is one of my biggest weaknesses.

But it’s hard to always be getting good quality vegetarian/vegan food around these here parts sometimes.

At the same time, I’ve been reading many many vegetarian/vegan food blogs and they’ve been a great source of motivation to me.

Because it’s always easier when you know there are people like you, who believe in and support the same cause that you believe in and support, too.

Plus the fact that I get so hungry after reading their posts about what they cook. Hurhur.

Literary Stuff 11:46 am

In my haste to make money, I forgot to post these pictures up.

From L-R: Philip Holden, Philip Jeyaretnam, Philip Goh Poh Seng and Daren Shiau.

From L-R: Text from If We Dream Too Long, Lynnette.

From Top-Bottom: Text from If We Dream Too Long, Lynnette’s head.

From L-R: Text from If We Dream Too Long and a very blurred photo of me.

BTW there is portions of the text from IWDTL plastered all over the Arts House, with poetry from Arthur Yap too.

It is an interesting time to be a writer/someone involved in writing indeed.

Literary Stuff 2:32 am

After some cajoling from Lynnette, I decided very late - at 2pm, in fact - to go for the Singapore Writers Festival to attend a panel discussion called Dreaming Singapore.

I was quite reluctant to go at first, because I thought I wouldn’t have been able to finish studying for the EN3269: Southeast Asian Lit in English paper, but I somehow managed to finish Kuo Pao Kun at 2pm on the dot.

The panel featured Goh Poh Seng, Philip Jeyaretnam and Daren Shiau, and was moderated by Philip Holden, my supervisor for my Singapore Lit ISM.

Truth be told, I didn’t feel it was as enriching as the previous seminar/panel discussion I attended at ISEAS but there was a cool moment out of it though.

We managed to snag a photo with Goh Poh Seng at the end of it.

Anti-Clockwise from L-R: Me, Goh Poh Seng, Lynnette Kang, Kelly Tay, Christine Chong Bee Mei and Philip Holden.

I felt quite bad to be badgering him for a photo actually, cos Goh Poh Seng has Parkinson’s disease and it feels to me like even though he was really fatigued, he was pushing himself to accommodate all his fans.

We shook his hand at the end of it all, and as I clasped his hand, I tried to will some youth and strength back into him.

It’s really sad to see him in this state, and I hope he gets better, if a cure can be found for the disease. Somehow.
