Zeugma, or late-night intellectual wankery.
Hey guys, hey guys! Check this out:
[Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese] take refuge in a cheap motel, where they make love - and pipe bombs.
– M. Keith Booker, Alternate Americas: Science Fiction Film and American Culture, p. 189
Wahahahaha! Isn’t that hilarious?
Well, maybe not. Maybe I’m the only idiot who finds it funny.
But you must know why I find this funny - and it’s not about the fact that the duo from The Terminator (1984) share an intimate moment together.
It’s funny because of the wry manner in which Booker uses a zeugma.
See? I told you this post was about late-night intellectual wankery.
Anyway, I’m still up doing my Term Paper for EL4221: Narrative Structures.
But I’m looking forward to finishing it because it highlights the end of many things and the start of many others.
More soon.
